Adventures of the Wu girls at Cakes by Happy Eatery

We had a fun and adventurous weekend.  We enjoyed the beautiful weather and the cakes were extremely creative.  We thought you would enjoy hearing about our hip 100 year old birthday girl!  This was for a family friend whose mother turned 100!  She is still quite independent, very outgoing, and loves to travel to visit family.

The birthday girl travelled to Virginia from Canada to celebrate this big occasion with close family and friends.  Victoria first met her about 10 years ago, and was delighted by this very young looking grandmother in leather pants!  So no ordinary cake would do for her 100th birthday celebration.  We knew she loves music, but where to next????

We decided on a fun topsy turvey design with bold colors to match her personality.  Red is a color of good luck for the Chinese, so that was a must.  We then marbled black and white fondant for the bottom and top tiers and added black musical notes.  We highlighted the middle tier in red with silhouettes of swing dancers.  We needed something else to tie in with the whimsical look, so Emily had to roll out over a hundred little balls of different sizes (Victoria was nowhere to be found for this task).  A few purses, lipstick and other fun glamorous items added the finishing touches.

We delivered the cake to Harvest Moon Restaurant and Lounge in Arlington, VA and added some fun spirals with black and red balls on the ends.  We enjoyed the devil’s food cake with rich chocolate buttercream on the bottom layer and vanilla sponge cake with custard and fresh strawberries on the top two tiers.

Join us next Tuesday for another story.  In the mean time, stop by either location to visit us for a bubble tea, or visit us at www.CakesbyHappyEatery.com

  1. What a fun blog! How lucky you ladies are to have each other to work with, even if there are times when your mom needs to step in! Your creativity is fantastic! Keep up the good work!
